Overview
BaadMay, an emerging Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) startup, aspired to remotely verify its customers, anchoring its strategy on advanced identity verification mechanisms. To achieve this, BaadMay entered into collaboration with truID. The primary objective was to incorporate truID's online identity verification service within BaadMay's web and mobile apps. This SaaS-based service from truID was expected to offer a suite of features, including liveness detection, ID document authenticity checks, photo-ID to selfie matching, and automatic text extraction using OCR. The ID documents that truID was required to support included Smart CNIC, NICOP, POC, and Urdu ID cards. From these, specific details such as the ID number, name, father's name, date of birth, and date of expiry from Smart CNICs, PoC, and NICOP, and the ID number and date of issue from the Urdu ID cards were to be extracted automatically using OCR.
